I’m finally back from my trip through western Europe, and like many a-travelers, I cannot stop talking about the food! For example- Total number of days spent in Paris: 2. Total number of crepes eaten: 5. Some were stuffed with egg and ham, others were filled with cheese and smoked salmon, but most delicious ones I ate (or really, inhaled) contained bananas and the stuff chocolate junkies dream of- Nutella.

I’m not sure if I will be able to find a suitable replacement for the corner patisseries in Paris here in Austin, but Flip Happy Crepes on 400 Jessie St. may come pretty close. They’ve gotten so much good buzz that Bobby Flay of Food Network challenged them to a crepe-off for his show Throwdown with Bobby Flay.
Savory crepes, like the one with shredded pork, cheddar cheese, pickles and Tabasco sauce, will run you $6-8, while sweet ones, like the one with lemon curd and blueberry dressing, will cost you around $4.
A word of caution: the hours of operation are pretty unusual (they are not open Sunday-Tuesday), so check the website to make sure they are open before you head over. I would suggest coming early, as lines tend to get long around peak meal time; I remember having to wait close to an hour during a Saturday brunch rush. Also, they sell their crepes out of a trailer in a fairly small parking lot, so getting there sooner would ensure better parking options.
Bon apetit! Check back tomorrow for my suggestions for a delicious treat courtesy of Spain!
Great post. You gotta love the crepes. France is the only place where my daughter could get away with ice cream for breakfast….her favorite crepe! Yummmmm!
Bobby Flay’s Throwdown! is so popular! Casserole Queens were on the show too, I love that he comes to Austin. My friends are obsessed with Food Network and they gave me the idea for a post about it. We’re on the same track!
